New Hardwood floors in your home is an exciting process! After all the time spent researching, asking questions, and choosing the perfect floors, you must be eager to see them in your home. Prior to installation, let the hardwood flooring acclimate to your home’s environment. Hardwood planks could expand or shrink due to the moisture content in the air. This is because wood is a natural material that reacts to its surroundings.

Why should I allow my hardwood floors to acclimate?
Prevent cupping, warping, and gapping by ensuring your hardwood planks acclimate to the environment before Installation. With proper care and installation, you can keep these problems at bay once your hardwood is fully adjusted.
How do I acclimate my hardwood floors?
To properly acclimate the wood, store it in an environment that mirrors your home’s climate. Aim for 30-50% humidity and 60-80 degrees Fahrenheit. Avoid areas like garages, porches, or homes without AC or heating during construction.
The frame needed for your hardwood floors to acclimate
New flooring will need time to fully adjust to their new environment, and this timeframe can vary based on where you live and your local conditions. It might take a few days or even a few weeks, depending on your location.
Ensure your flooring reaches its Equilibrium Moisture Content (EMC) before installation. An AZ Floor Solutions installer can measure this, or a moisture meter from your local hardware store. Once the EMC has a range of 6 and 9 percent, your hardwood floor is ready for installation.
The Floors have acclimated, what’s next?
Now that your hardwood floors are acclimated, you’re all set for installation, and start enjoying them!
